Poems of Robert Burns
During the year of 2009 the Robert Burns World
Federation are organising a series of ‘Homecoming’ events to mark the 250th
birth date of Robert Burns. In recognition of this the Forum is setting a
modern interpretation of the following poems by Burns as the subject matter for
the Painting Competition;
‘Auld Lang Syne’
‘Address to
‘My Hearts in the
The Poems can be accessed widely in books of Burns
and on the Internet. Burns original works were written in the Scots Language,

Students should create a
painting inspired by a modern interpretation of one of the poems. Competitors
are free to choose style and mediums. Support size 40cm x 50cm.
Paintings will be judged
on painting and drawing skills also reflecting appropriateness to the chosen poem during Days of
Prizes: -winners will
receive Prizes, the May McMaster Award and Certificates .

Competitors must be 15 – 16 years at the
time of the competition. Each competitor will be interviewed by the judging
panel prior to the competition.

Robert Burns World Federation Essay Competition 2009
The Robert Burns World Federation has set
the following essay topic for 2009
‘Should Auld Acquaintance be Forgot’ from Auld Lang Syne
Entries will be accepted from 13 – 16 year
old students on the day of the competition.
The competition will be judged by Helen Morrison,
Isa Hanley and Jimmy Law of the Robert Burns World Federation
All entries must be received by 20th
December 2008 to allow time for adjudication.
Late entries will not be accepted and judged.
Winners will receive prizes, certificates and
medals from the Robert Burns World Federation.
